JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - This week, the Jackson County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging 55-year-old Jackson County resident Jason Lamar Broadus, with manslaughter.
According to Sheriff John Ledbetter, on November 18, 2023, deputies responded to a medical emergency on Lily Orchard Road in the Helena community just before 10:00p.m.
He said deputies discovered Dwight Scott Tanner, 52, of Lucedale, unresponsive. Despite efforts to save his life, Tanner died at the scene.
Sheriff Ledbetter said that Tanner and Broadus were at a social gathering and were involved in an altercation which resulted in Tanner’s death.
Evidence was submitted to the Grand Jury which determined there was reason to charge Broadus.
If convicted, Broadus could face a potential penalty of 2 to 20 years
