COLUMBUS, Ohio — Imagine you’re stranded on the road in an unfamiliar place with a flat tire. Traditional 911 would require software to triangulate your position based on nearby cell towers.
With Next Generation 911 , your location from the GPS in your cellphone will give dispatchers more accurate location data so emergency crews can arrive sooner.
“Shaving two seconds off a response can be life or death,” said Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin.
Franklin County’s new $6.5 million 911 call center was built to handle what’s called NG911. The bunker-type building is designed to sustain 250 mile per hour winds, according to the Franklin County Board of Commissioners.
