Nevada lawmakers are seeking an additional $25 million for a program to build new homes for residents of a sunken North Las Vegas neighborhood.
However, the bill also appears to drastically cut back the number of houses that could be built and would require that the developer be hired for other related work, without a formal bidding process.
A bill introduced Friday in the Legislature’s special session aims to revise a 2023 measure that allocated $37 million for the development of a new subdivision for residents of Windsor Park, a historical Black neighborhood that has grappled for decades with widespread structural damage. It also allowed the homeowners to exchange their houses for the newly built ones.
