GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police linked a fourth victim to known serial killer Alan Wilmer. Investigators have now used Wilmer's DNA to identify him as the murderer behind 18-year-old Laurie Ann Powell's death.
It's a nearly 40-year-old cold case that has baffled investigators for decades.
"To the victim's family, we express our sincere condolences for the loss and the pain that you have experienced these past 37 years," said Robin Lawson with Virginia State Police.
Laurie Ann Powell was last seen walking along Route 614 in Gloucester County in 1988. Investigators said Powell had argued with her boyfriend after leaving a party, got out of the car, and walked away.
