Montreal’s weekend transit shutdown has been averted after the STM and the bus and métro drivers’ union struck an agreement Friday night.
The walkout was set to begin early Saturday and halt all STM service for 48-hours except paratransit. It will no longer go ahead.
The union had been given the green light to proceed by the Administrative Labour Tribunal, clearing the way for their second major disruption of the month. They last walked off the job on Nov. 1, marking the first such strike in 38 years.
That strike action left thousands of Montrealers scrambling to reach sports events and get around the city.
