LINCOLN, Neb. —

The Nebraska State Capitol is often a cauldron of political controversy, and its lack of security checks has some of the officials and staff members who work there worried.

"What happens inside the chambers: even people throwing things at us, people out in the rotunda yelling, screaming," state Sen. Ben Hansen said.

Nebraska's capitol is not just unique among states for its architecture, but also its lack of security checkpoints. It's one of the around a dozen capitols without metal detectors — something the president of the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association, Patricia Harrold, supports.
