FRANKFORT, Ky. — More than 600,000 Kentuckians went without federal food assistance during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
With the shutdown now over, Kentuckians who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may see their funds returned as soon as this weekend.
On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear said his administration is working through the night to process SNAP benefits as quickly as possible.
“Good news, Kentucky -- we’ve finally received the go-ahead to fully fund SNAP benefits for Kentuckians who rely on this assistance," he wrote on social media . “The hope [is] our families can see those benefits hit cards tomorrow."
In another post, Beshear again criticized President Donald Trump’s handling of the shutdown and his administration’s pushbac
