DONIPHAN, Neb. (KSNB) - A dedication ceremony was held to commemorate the Doniphan Fire of 1887 with the unveiling of a new historical marker. The fire, sparked by a botched robbery in the business district, burned half the town to ashes.
Local Eagle Scout Caden Hahhon spearheaded the project after first learning about the fire two months ago. With help from his uncle, Hahhon created a lasting tribute to the community’s history.
“I think it’s really cool because I remember we had a sign about a block and a half that way, and I remember walking to it as a kid,” Hahhon said. “It’s really cool to think in 15 years my kids can see this, and the next generation. And it’ll always be here.”
