SIMSBURY, Conn. — Members of the Connecticut law enforcement community took to the ice in Simsbury Friday evening to remember officers who have lost their lives while serving the community.

Players, fans and families came together to honor two fallen officers in particular whose service and sacrifice continue to resonate across the region. Those two men were Alex Hamzy and Dustin DeMonte, members of the Bristol Police Department who were fatally ambushed in 2022.

The exhibition hockey match — organized by the nonprofit "Honor Them" — brought police officers, firefighters, EMTs and dispatchers onto the ice. First responders traded in their everyday gear for hockey pads, skating in memory of their colleagues.
