BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) -A historic opportunity is returning to LSU, and it could shape the futures of thousands of students and potentially have an impact far beyond campus.

LSU is bringing back its Corps of Cadets program, a long-standing part of the university’s history that dates back to 1860. The program eventually faded out, but university leaders say its return will offer a modern twist.

For the first time, non-military students will be able to participate.

“This is about bringing back a piece of LSU history… a very important piece that means something,” said retired Lt. Col. Rico Alvendia, a member of the LSU Board of Supervisors who is helping lead the program’s revival.
