A man accused of stabbing a 23-year-old woman to death before lighting himself on fire early Thursday died of his burn injuries Friday afternoon, Baton Rouge police report.
Steven Heinrich Jr. stabbed Stasy Charles multiple times early Thursday morning, leaving her to die, before driving away and getting into a head-on collision, according to police reports. He then allegedly set himself on fire. Officers responding to the scene were able to extinguish the flames, and Heinrich was transported to a hospital.
Heinrich died around 2 p.m. Friday, the Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed.
Officers originally responded to the stabbing around 2 a.m. Thursday in the 12000 block of Old Hammond Highway. They found Charles on the ground in a parking lot, bleeding from multiple large stab wounds
