Those who depend on tea, coffee and other caffeinated beverages for an energy boost need to know when their next cup might push them into dangerous territory. Whilst many assume a few cups cause little damage, they can trigger problems with the heart, mind and more.

The UK's recommended caffeine threshold is about 400mg daily for most healthy adults, following guidance from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). This works out to roughly four or five cups of tea or coffee a day, however that is a loose guide. A doctor says going over this number could cause problems.
