LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Indiana’s Senate will not meet for a special session on redrawing voting maps.
Senate President Rod Bray released the decision in a statement, saying “there are not enough votes to move that idea forward, and the Senate will not reconvene in December.”
The announcement follows months of the Trump administration asking red states to rally support for redistricting, in hopes of widening the Republican majority in the US House during next year’s midterms.
The maps were made four years ago after the most recent census.
The White House tried to encourage lawmakers to get on board with the redistricting with trips to the Oval Office, along with Vice President JD Vance visiting Indianapolis.
