Jammu and Kashmir police chief Nalin Prabhat on Saturday ruled out any speculation over the blast at Nowgam police station that killed nine people and injured 32 others, mostly policemen, saying the explosion was accidental and occurred during the handling of recovered explosives.

The blast ripped through the police station around 11:20 p.m. on Friday, killing a State Investigation Agency (SIA) personnel, three members of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, two crime-scene photographers, two revenue officials and another person accompanying them, who is said to be a local resident.
