Noonmati Gofrai Adhoc UP school struggles with cyclonic damage, exposing the neglect in Meghalaya’s education system
In the heart of South West Garo Hills, a school stands as a stark testament to neglect and administrative apathy. The Noonmati Gofrai Adhoc Upper Primary (UP) School, set up in 1992 by late PA Sangma, to serve the Hajong community, has been struggling to keep its doors open after losing most of its roof in a cyclonic storm in 2022.
“There are 7 Lower Primary schools around our Upper Primary school which would mean that we would be the first choice in continuing their education. However, one look at our school and parents and teachers just turn away and seek education elsewhere,” said Headmaster Martin Hajong.
