The Kingsway Regional High School football program has been a perennial contender going back decades, the last 10 years under Mark Hendricks and prior a lengthy successful run under the legendary Tony Barchuk.
Still, sectional titles had been elusive, which is why the third-seeded and No. 14 Dragons relished Friday night’s 38-21 NJSIAA/Xfinity South Jersey Group 5 final win at top-seeded Atlantic City.
It was just the third title in school history.
“Tony Barchuk won the first one, we won the second in 2021,” said Kingsway coach Mark Hendricks. “It’s kind of remarkable. We’ve played in four sectional finals now. We’ve been the underdog in every one, and somehow we found a way to win two.”
