The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) announced a major expansion of its operations in Odisha and committed to deploying assets across all key ports.
Inspector General Iqbal Singh Chauhan confirmed that Coast Guard ships will soon operate from Gopalpur Port, while the number of vessels at Paradip Port will increase significantly.
Furthermore, authorities revealed plans to establish jetty facilities and Coast Guard branches at Gopalpur and Dhamra ports. In addition, the ICG will set up a dedicated drone unit at Dhamra to strengthen surveillance and coastal security. These measures form part of a broader proposal submitted to the Chief Minister of Odisha, emphasising the importance of maritime safety and anti‑smuggling operations.
