A persistent offender who prefers to be in jail had his wish granted when he was sent to prison for 14 months after being caught with a knife.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Lee Jackson was "covered in blood" and told police officers he had self-harmed. Jackson, 41, admitted illegal possession of a knife in Coltness Road, Wishaw, on July 26. He also admitted trying to punch a police officer.

Lewis Devoy, prosecuting, said police were called to the area about 1am. He stated: "They were told that a male appeared to be under the influence and was covered in blood.

"Three officers attended and saw the accused who appeared to be unsteady on his feet. He made repeated attempts to punch one officer before he was taken to the ground and restrained, reports Lanarkshire Live.
