There may still be a silver lining among relationships between Democrats and Republicans in an increasingly polarized political environment, according to a new poll .
A poll released Friday by NBC News found that a majority of voters have a close friend on the opposite side of the political aisle — with Republicans leading the charge.
According to the poll, there is an 18-percentage-point gap between the two political parties over whether they have a politically opposite friend. While 82% of Republicans say they have at least one close friend who identifies as a Democrat, 64% of Democrats said the same about having a close friend who is a Republican.
As expected, voters who consider themselves to be more moderate are more likely to have a close friendship with a voter in the opposit
