Intel, one of Oregon’s biggest employers, announced Thursday that another 669 employees will be laid off from its facilities in Hillsboro and Aloha before the end of the year.
The latest round of layoffs comes after Intel’s Oregon workforce was hit hard, with layoffs surging past 2,000 despite $260M in tax breaks in July. Hardest hit in this round of layoffs are 291 Module Equipment Technicians and 65 Manufacturing Technicians at Gordon Moore Park at Ronler Acres.
The layoffs are part of a cost-cutting strategy, as the chipmaker seeks to make up ground lost to competitors like Nvidia and AMD, whose manufacturing arms have more advanced production technology.
