COLUMBUS, Ohio — RJ Day, the son of the Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, had a rough ending to his junior season on Friday night.
The Columbus St. Francis DeSales quarterback had thrown for a school record of 482 yards last week in a playoff win against Ashland. It included a game-winning touchdown and three scores overall.
Friday was a different story.
DeSales, the top seed in Division II, Region 7 of the OHSAA playoffs, played at home against third-seeded Massillon. Day was not able to maintain his momentum in the 48-14 loss. He was picked off twice and threw one touchdown.
He threw his only touchdown pass of the night in the fourth quarter, connecting with junior wide receiver Dax Middleton, cutting Massillon’s lead 41-14.
