The National Democratic Alliance has performed better than exit polls predicted. It’s a clean sweep for the NDA, which has won 145 seats and is leading in 58 out of 243 constituencies as of 7:45 pm. The Mahagathbandhan trails far behind with win in 22 seats and leads in 12 others, while the Jan Suraaj Party has failed in its electoral debut.
This is the NDA’s strongest performance since the 2010 state polls, when it crossed the 200-seat mark.
Although exit polls projected an NDA victory, the alliance has surpassed those estimates. It’s a dismal show for the Mahagathbandhan, which had won 110 seats in the 2020 elections. The NDA had secured 125 seats last time—just over the halfway mark—but is now comfortably placed with a two-thirds majority.
