New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes is recovering from surgery following an injury he suffered to his finger in a freak accident during a team dinner Friday, Nov. 14, ESPN reports.
The Devils on Friday announced only that Hughes was out with a non-hockey-related injury. On Saturday, the team said that Hughes underwent successful surgery on his finger, performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
Hughes, who is 24 years old, will be out for approximately eight weeks with a re-evaluation at the six-week mark, his team said.
Circumstances around the accident were not released.
The Devils (12-4-1) are set to face the Washington Capitals (8-8-1) at 7 p.m. in Washington.
