SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. —
An iconic Swampscott, Massachusetts, restaurant is shuttering its doors after eight decades.
Hawthorne by the Sea on Humphrey Street announced in a Facebook post on Saturday that it, along with Anthony's Pier 4 Cafe, will be closing their doors.
"For 80 years, we have had the immense privilege of being part of your lives and the fabric of the Swampscott community," said owners Anthony Jr., Michael, and Paul Athanas. "As a family, we are proud to have contributed to the town we call home."
Both properties were sold to the Town of Swampscott in 2022.
While it's unclear what the town's plans are for the two businesses, the owners are thanking the community for the ride.
