With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I found myself reflecting on the fact that I am so far away from any family. At the current distance, my interactions with them are reduced to texts and the occasional video chat. It can be pretty bleak at times.
Luckily, I’ve managed to assemble a found family here in Yuma, and while they could never replace my loved ones, they have nonetheless entrenched themselves into my heart, especially around the holidays.
I will always be so grateful to the people who have offered me a spot at their table during the holidays. I usually buy a Cornish hen as a joke, but the laughter feels a bit canned when I actually sit down to eat it by myself. Instead, I get to spend time with people who I care about, and who care about me.
