A man was saved by a lifeboat crew who found him “clinging onto the side of a boat by his fingertips” after it capsized in freezing water. ‌

Members of the public called emergency services for help after noticing the man in difficulty around 100 metres off Holborn Head near Scrabster in Caithness on Saturday afternoon. ‌

Thurso RNLI Lifeboat, The Taylors, was launched at 2.14pm and arrived at the scene just four minutes later. ‌

The man, who wasn’t wearing a lifejacket, is believed to have been in the water for around 30 minutes.

Thurso Lifeboat coxswain, Lewis Davidson, was among the five crew members involved in the “time critical” rescue mission.
