Kevin Francis Myler, Jr., a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, died on Sunday, Nov. 9. He was 66 years old.
A GoFundMe launched by family friend Meghan Gyves says Kevin was “an incredible man” whose kindness, strength, humor, and love for his family “brought light to every room he entered.” As of Saturday, Nov. 15, the campaign had raised $19,400.
Born on Aug. 9, 1959, in Astoria, Queens, Kevin grew up on Long Island before graduating from Half Hollow Hills East High School and later earning his accounting degree from Pace University, according to his obituary on the Bradley Funeral Home website.
His family said he fell in love with New York City, and eventually met his wife, Kim, at a Sag Harbor pool party in 1990. He proposed a year later on Robert Moses State Park beach, and together they built a full life in Chatham, raising four children and welcoming their granddaughter, Nora, his obituary says.
"If you met Kevin, you never forgot him," his obituary continues. "Fondly nicknamed as 'Big Kev,' he was tall, dark, and handsome, with striking blue eyes and a presence that filled any room. No matter where we were in the world, it seemed someone would always recognize him and call out his name. Many remarked on his uncanny resemblance to Superman and not just because of his looks.
"Kevin may have had the looks, but he was defined even more by his compassion, curiosity, and selflessness. He lived with the highest integrity and was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His strength of character was deeply rooted in his upbringing — shaped by the example of his parents and grandparents, whose hard work and devotion inspired him to live with purpose, humility, and heart."
Services will be held Sunday, Nov. 16 and 17. Click here for Kevin Myler's obituary, complete with service details, and here to donate to his family's GoFundMe.
