A death investigation is underway after a man’s body was found in a trash can along the Schuylkill River Trail near Haws Avenue in Norristown, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announced on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Norristown Police were called to the area off the 100 block of Buttonwood Street around 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, after a 911 caller reported the discovery, authorities said. Officers arrived to find a body concealed in a trash can near the trail entrance, according to police.

The body was found by an unhoused person, investigators said. Detectives determined the deceased was a man between 40 and 49 years old who was also living unhoused and is undocumented.

A joint investigation by Norristown Police and Montgomery County Detectives remains ongoing.
