The National Weather Service announced a fire weather watch for much of the Baltimore-Washington area Sunday, as the region experiences an abnormally dry fall season, bringing with it numerous blazes.
In the NWS’s post on X, the agency outlined the alert, warning that the area will see a combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry fuels. The agency also issued a wind advisory for the higher elevations of the Allegheny and northern Blue Ridge Mountains until 6 p.m. on Sunday.
This announcement comes after a series of high-profile fires hit Baltimore over the last couple of weeks, as well as a brush fire that forced the closure of Solomons Island Road in Annapolis on Thursday.
The majority of Maryland remains abnormally dry with about 30% of the state experiencing moderate drought
