Garrett Nussmeier’s lingering abdominal injury forced him to miss a game for the first time on Saturday when LSU defeated Arkansas 23-22 in Tiger Stadium.

Interim coach Frank Wilson said he’s “not quite sure” how the injury affects the Tigers’ fifth-year senior quarterback availability for the rest of the season. On Saturday, LSU started sophomore Michael Van Buren in his place, and he broke off a late 35-yard run that helped seal the victory on the last drive of the game.

“We practiced up until yesterday to see if there was opportunity that was potential if we got in an emergency situation,” Wilson, “and (Nussmeier) was not able to do so, and so we'll continue to monitor him day by day, week by week to see his progress.”
