An efficient 20 points from freshman Melih Tunca and a 15-7 edge in the turnover battle led Penn State to a 83-69 win over La Salle on Saturday afternoon at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Penn State (4-0) did most of its work in the first half. The Nittany Lions led by as many as 16 points after a 3-pointer by Josh Reed with 2:25 left in the opening stanza and took a 42-29 advantage into halftime. The Explorers stayed in it, only losing the second half 42-41, but Penn State was able to keep them at arm’s length and finish on top.
Tunca made 8 of 9 field goal attempts, including all four of his 3-pointers, and added four assists. Fellow freshman Kayden Mingo chipped in with 14 points and seven assists. Freddie Dilione V (16 points) and Ivan Juric (11 points) rounded out the Nittany
