Riverhounds SC goalkeeper Eric Dick wasn’t watching the stoppage time countdown clock to the right of his net.
He didn’t even know it was there.
All he was worried about was making sure everyone was where they needed to be on the upcoming Rhode Island FC corner kick.
“I wanted to go home,” Dick said. “You got a sense for everybody that we wanted to go home. It was a big moment, and I think they knew it was the last kick of the game and they wanted to see it out.”
As it turned out, the last Rhode Island gasp never made it anywhere near the frame. And when the ball was cleared, the Riverhounds were the USL Championship Eastern Conference champions for the first time in their 26-year history.
