NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Meredith Roberts of North Tonawanda — a 17-year-old high school student urgently awaiting a liver transplant — has found a donor match, according to her family.
The news was shared from UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where her mother announced that a donor match has been accepted.
Meredith's mother, Sara, told 2 On Your Side that Meredith went into surgery on Saturday afternoon.
Roberts’ mother posted the update on Facebook , saying the family finally received "the news they’ve been waiting for." The development marks an important breakthrough in the teen’s medical journey, which has drawn widespread attention and support.
The donor match comes just days after an outpouring of community response, with more than 600 people applying to be living donor
