WEST FARGO — Three pool records were set on Saturday as Bismarck Century won the North Dakota High School State Girls Swimming Championships at Hulbert Aquatic Center.
Bismarck Legacy’s Brinley Steele beat Addison Cerney’s record set last year in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.64 seconds. Dru Zander of Williston set a new mark in the 100 free at 51.41 and Madeline VerDouw of Bismarck took nearly two seconds off her own Hulbert record to win at 1:02.80 in the 100 breaststroke.
Bethany Mehl of Fargo South finished second at 1:03.57, which also beat VerDouw’s old time of 1:04.54. VerDouw was just a tenth of a second away from beating Erin Palmer’s state record set in 2021.
