Western Australians must shake off their aversion to apartment living and embrace high-density housing solutions to support population growth across the metropolitan area, according to the state government.
It comes amid a proposal to reform planning frameworks to fast-track high-rise developments in Perth suburbs within an 800 metre radius of 10 train stations.
Precincts in Ballajura, Redcliffe and Cottesloe would be the first to be rezoned, with the reforms to also capture train station precincts in Bassendean, Carlisle and Oats Street, Claisebrook, Glendalough, Morley, Mosman Park and Swanbourne.
Under the scheme, the WA Planning Commission would take the place of local government as the body responsible setting height and zone density guidelines in the hope of attracting developers
