Every time Jonathon Riley had the urge to hunker down in his garage to tinker with one of his beloved motorbikes, he’d have to wheel the others into the back lane to give himself room. And then, whenever a car wanted to inch past, he’d have to go out and wheel them back inside again.

All the time, he’d dream of making better use of that garage space until, finally, one day, he took action. He knew renovating the decrepit 30-to-40-year-old weatherboard structure, leaning under the weight of a tree growing beside it, would be impossible, so he decided to knock down most of the rickety structure and start from scratch.
