Intoxicated Driver Seriously Injured After Slamming Into Pole, Tree In Saint James: Police

A man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a utility pole and a tree in Saint James late Saturday night, Suffolk County Police announced on Sunday, Nov. 16. 

Kody Whitton, 28, of Kings Park, was driving a 2005 Buick Lacrosse westbound in front of 580 North Country Road when he lost control and struck a utility pole before hitting a tree at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, according to the release. 

Whitton was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. He was later charged with Driving While Intoxicated. His arraignment will be scheduled for a later date. The Buick was impounded for a safety check, police said.
