A speed eating competitor was conquered by a 10,000 calorie roast potato challenge.

Jonny Adams was tasked with eating four-and-a-half kilos of spuds, smothered in a pint of gravy, within 20 minutes.

Anyone who successfully completes the challenge, which costs £20 to enter, gets their meal for free and wins a prize of £100.

But Jonny, 42, from Droylsden , was found wanting and gave up after six minutes.

Prepared for the challenge, he had brought his own mint sauce, which he believed would help him chow down the roasties.

He took on the challenge at Spuds in Wakefield last week.

“Before I started, I was very confident but when they were brought out I lost the confidence,” Jonny said.
