From youth deer season through the opening week of modern gun deer season, hunters have taken some magnificent bucks.
The biggest so far is a potential Boone and Crockett record book candidate that Jonathan Stanley killed during the alternative firearms season on public land in north Arkansas. Stanley's father, Mike Stanley of Highland , pinpointed the buck's territory on Harold E. Alexander Spring River Wildlife Management Area during one of his frequent preseason scouting walks.
"The last few years I've gotten a lot of pleasure out of finding these old deer," Mike Stanley said. "You've got to put in a lot of time and energy to do that. I found this one big old buck. I first saw him three years ago. I named him Bruce. I don't know where that came from. Bruce Wayne maybe."
