The Audubon Aquarium has welcomed new tiny diamondback terrapins.
The terrapins will spend the next year at the aquarium, gaining weight and growing larger, before they return to their protected marsh habitat. Advertisement
The aquarium is partnering with Nicholls State University and the Barataria Terrebonne National Estuary Program for the first-ever terrapin head-start program in the state.
The project will allow Audubon to monitor the growth of the terrapins and learn about their behavior at the early life stage.
You can visit the terrapins at the Aquarium's Down the Bayou gallery.
