Police are hunting a rapist following a “horrendous” early morning attack on a woman in a park.

Police Scotland said the woman was attacked in Brodie Park, Paisley, Renfrewshire, at about 4.30am this morning. The man cops are looking for is described as white, in his early 20s and with a local accent. He was wearing dark grey clothing.

Police said patrols would be stepped up in the area and that the woman had been “seriously sexually assaulted”. A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The woman did not require hospital treatment but was left extremely frightened.”

Detective Inspector Nicky Beattie, Inverclyde CID, said: “This was a horrendous ordeal for the woman and we are doing everything we can to trace the man responsible.
