POPE COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - An investigation is underway after a horseback rider was hit by a vehicle on Saturday evening.
Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits said it happened around 5:30 p.m. on November 15, on northbound IL-145 near the Bear Branch Campground, just north of Eddyville, Illinois.
He said a car struck a female horseback rider and her horse. She had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and was airlifted to a local hospital.
Sheriff Suits added that a group arrived to take care of the horse, but the animal’s condition is currently unknown.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
