CHICAGO – Michigan’s football team entered Saturday’s matchup against Northwestern as a double-digit favorite but needed a walk-off 31-yard field goal to avoid an upset at Wrigley Field.
The 18 th -ranked Wolverines won 24-22 to improve to 8-2 and 6-1 in the Big Ten. They outgained the Wildcats 496-245 but a handful of miscues nearly derailed their season.
Overall, Michigan finished with grade of (75.1), according to Pro Football Focus. Its 73.0 offensive grade is its fourth-best of the year, despite the unit turning the ball over four times Saturday. Meanwhile, the 70.6 defensive grade is its third-worst of the year. The run defense was stout, though, earning an 83.8 mark after holding the Wildcats to a season-low 61 yards on the ground.
