EAST LANSING, Mich. — It’s been a long road for Penn State to get in the win column.
It featured losses to the two best teams in the country in Ohio State and Indiana, but also defeats to inferior squads on paper like Northwestern and UCLA. It had James Franklin get fired and quarterback Drew Allar suffering a season-ending injury.
The Nittany Lions haven’t brought home a win since Sept. 13 against Villanova, but they put it all together on Saturday to snap a six-game losing skid and beat Michigan State.
Smith gets a win
When Terry Smith replaced Franklin as interim head coach, he walked into a tough situation. Penn State had already lost three games that resulted in the firing of Franklin, his starting quarterback in Allar wouldn’t return to the field, and he had Iowa at night, No. 1
