UPDATE: A Summerville man wanted for setting fire to a home with a woman and small child inside early Saturday morning is now in custody.

Both victims "barely escaped with their lives," and the home was a total loss, the Gordon County Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives say they have recovered an abundance of evidence that links Charles Timothy Battles, 46, to the crime.

He had been on the run since Saturday morning. Officials deemed him "dangerous."

A deputy arrested him inside a home near the Scottsville community with the help of tips from residents.

Now Battles is charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of arson, and aggravated stalking.
