A fire at a Homewood retirement home on Saturday night affected 25 units, according to local police.

Homewood Police and Fire personnel reported a fire at Skyline Village on 260 Goodwin Crest Drive. City of Homewood fire chief Brandon Broadhead told ABC 33/40 a cause hasn’t been determined.

Evacuating about 90 residents and making sure they were safe was the main priority because most residents have “disabilities and mobility restrictions,” Broadhead said. One person was hospitalized for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire was extinguished within eight to 10 minutes with assistance from Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook fire crews. The sprinkler system caused water damage, forcing residents on the first through third floors to find shelter for the night.
