LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WAFB) - A Livingston Parish jury has convicted a 35-year-old man of first-degree rape involving a victim under the age of 13, according to the 21st Judicial District Attorney Scott Perrilloux.
Welner Osmanis Sura, originally from El Salvador, was found guilty as charged on Friday, Nov. 7.
Investigators said key evidence presented at trial helped secure the verdict. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brett Sommer.
Sura is scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 20, 2026, and faces a mandatory life sentence.
