GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — The American Legion Riders Post 53 honored veterans Sunday afternoon at the Heritage at Sagewood assisted living facility.

Veterans, families and residents gathered to celebrate 13 veterans currently living at the nursing home. This is a new program started by the American Legion Riders.

The American Legion said it is important to let the brave men and women know that they are thankful for their service and they are not forgotten.

“Hopefully there will be young ones out there that will see this and they see ceremonies like this and it helps reinforce to them what people have done in years past to ensure they have a wonderful country to live in,” said Dan Willets, a member of American Legion Riders Post 53.
