GRANITE BAY, Calif. —

A bear and her two cubs were spotted wandering around in a Granite Bay neighborhood on Friday, prompting a lockdown at a school.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office confirmed the three bears were seen near Greenhills Elementary School and deputies instructed the school to initiate a shelter-in-place.

In a letter to parents, school officials said the bears were seen moving away from the school before dismissal, but additional staff were present as students left for the day to ensure safety.

It's not clear which direction the bears moved. KCRA has reached out to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, but has not yet heard back.
