CARMEL, Calif. (Gray News) - The search continues for a missing 5-year-old girl after she and her parents were swept into the ocean at a California beach.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office says a family was visiting Garrapata State Beach on Friday when a 5-year-old girl was pulled into the ocean by a large wave. The girl’s father, identified as 39-year-old Yuji Hu, went in to try to save her, but they were both pulled farther out to sea.

Deputies say the girl’s mother also tried to help but was swept into the water herself. She was able to make it back to shore while two bystanders pulled Hu from the water and immediately began CPR.
